A little bit about how and when you got started
Sagency was founded in late 2011 out of a desire to help leaders create more value and greater impact through their ventures. I believed, and still do, that the most important business decisions are about people, and the strongest driver of business success is hiring and developing the right people. From an early point in my career, I resonated with the notion that culture trumps strategy. So, I wanted to create a firm that would make significant contributions to form winning strategies and build high-performance cultures.

What should people know about your business
Sagency exists to help leaders build valuable and impactful organizations where people reach their full potential. We achieve this core purpose through targeted recruiting of top 10% talent, scientific evaluation of candidates to ensure culture/job fit, executive coaching, succession planning, and strategy development. Our clients tend to be leaders who are relentless about hiring people who are a great fit for a role and then providing opportunities for professional growth and development. They also are people who are serious about growing profitability and making a positive impact on their employees, customers, and community.

What’s one tip that you have for other YPs that are interested in starting a business
Find and intentionally surround yourself with driven and optimistic people who have strong values and character. Character development is deeply influenced by those with whom you spend your time, and not much propels and sustains personal or business success more than drive, optimism, strong values, and character. Also, work hard to discover and understand your areas of personal strength and potential. Then, seriously invest in and develop that potential. Sage investor Warren Buffet says, “Investing in yourself is the best thing you can do…if you’ve got talent yourself, and you’ve maximized your talent, you’ve got a tremendous asset that can return ten-fold.” Others will invest in you and your vision, only after you have invested in yourself.
