What are the benefits of a YP network?
YP networks help members connect to their community, as well as other young people across North Dakota. Your local YP network is a great place to meet people, network and make new friends. Many YP networks also have professional development events where you can learn about everything from saving for retirement to how to buy a home! In addition, YP groups give back to their community through civic and service projects.
Why are YP groups important to North Dakota’s workforce retention?
When people move or return to North Dakota, the NDYP offers an instant network of friends and business associates. This helps young professionals establish roots in their community and gives them an instant network of contacts and friends. YP groups also serve as great ambassadors of the state. Who better to sell North Dakota to our out-of-state friends and family than the YPs already living here?
What is the definition of a professional?
A professional is anyone who is interested in joining a YP group. YP members represent all walks of life and occupations.
What is the difference between a YP group and other civic groups like the Rotary Club, Optimist Club, or other service organization?
Unlike a club, the YP network has no nationwide rules, bylaws, or offices. Each individual YP group is free to make their network work for them. Civic groups are free to partner with or start YP networks, using their own club activities as a starting point for YP events. Visit www.ypcommons.org to learn more about the national level YP activities.
What are some of the YP groups’ activities?
YP networks typically focus on a combination of the following:
- Professional development
- Service
- Social
- Entrepreneurship
YP networks in North Dakota have done symphony nights, helped build homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and cheered at basketball games.
